OPEN FORUM!!!
Here is where you can talk about whatever you feel. Ideas, concerns, compliments etc.
Try Outs happen at the first of the school year I think. Mrs. Andrews really ecourages ANYONE with an interest to come try out, and pretty much everyone makes it that wants to. Its a great program
The lawsuit against a former special education preschool teacher accused of abusing her students has been set for trial. Donna Weidenbenner faces seven federal lawsuits following allegations from May 2009 that she was abusing her students. The trial for the seventh and most recent lawsuit has been set for Feb. 14, 2012. The Sumner County Board of Education is accused of “refusing to investigate complaints” involving abuse and for creating an atmosphere allowing teachers “to violate the constitutional rights of disable children without fear of discipline.” She was charged with three counts of child abuse of children age 6 or under for incidents that occurred during the 2008-2009 school year at Station Camp Elementary. She pled no contest to the charges receiving a sentence of six years probation and is prohibited from teaching or working with children.
Question- Why is this person still listed on the school’s web page as one of our preschool teachers? I feel terrible for these children and their families. How on earth did something like this go on uninvestigated and without punishment? This is unacceptable!
Yup her name is there, it doesn't matter if she is not listed on the staff page her name is still on the preschool teacher page. The website is obviously not kept up to date.
Yeah! Just one more week of school left! We made it through another year. I believe this year was much better than last year. Some improvements are still needed. Let’s hope the new PTO officers will be more open to suggestions, friendly and outgoing. How did this year stack up for you? What are your thoughts of how SCE can better itself in the coming year?
Who are the new PTO officers? I haven't seen or heard anything about it. When did we vote. I never even saw any names submitted. Are you sure there are new officers? I would love to know and share my thoughts with them. Does anyone know they are? My first point of advice for the school, would be... CLUE US IN. We are going to be expected to pay major PTO fees next year, but had no say in who is working for us. Shouldn't we have seen who the nominees were and been able to vote??? Just a question??? No offense to the new board(if there is one)
That was uncalled for.... For your info I have seen nothing until today. 5/26/10 Note, I posted yesterday. But thanks for having such a nice attitude, and for being so helpful. It's that attitude that gives our school a HORRIBLE REP.
I know that there were ballots and info, but I never saw a list of who was nominated nor how we could vote. I guess they don't have parent involvement in a big decision like that at this school. I guess they just pick who they want. No big deal. I was just wondering who it was and if there was even a new board. Because I hadn't heard anything. I must have really hit a sore button with the above poster. You have really got your panties in a wad over this one.
No one got their panties in a wad. Just wondering how you could have missed everything that was sent home. Unless maybe you just like to complain? Enjoy the summer.
I understand what the poster is saying. I also received no information between the nominating ballot and what was sent home yesterday telling us who the new PTO officers are. I have checked the website in recent weeks and noticed new names posted. No one I know personally except one who has helped out before. Someone I spoke to said she sent in a ballot nominating a friend, but this person was never called or contacted about the position. If this is true, then why even send out ballots??? If the staff is just going to pick whomever they wish, then why go through this process? I am just asking - not complaining, so please don't jump on me too! Hope everyone has a safe and fun summer!
No one here knows me - I live in another state. My daughter teaches at SCE and recently had to buy supplies for her class for the new year. Their grade level teachers were given $125 to spend so her share was $25. It could only be spent at one store where prices are much higher than Wal-Mart, etc. She had less than $2 per student to spend so she had to add more than $100 of her own money (which is a financial hardship on her) and this happens year after year. Does anyone know where all the money for activity fees goes? Isn't is something like $30 per student? Why doesn't your PTO address issues like this? She has taught in 2 other schools and has never been treated like this. She loves SCE and is highly respected in her grade level, serving as curriculum co-ordinator, but I am one disappointed parent for her!
It is really sad that with all the money that is raised with Fall Carnival, Catalog Sales and other events, that more money does not go where it is needed most – The Classrooms – The Teachers & The Students!
Hopefully that isn't correct. Does SCE even have a grade with only 5 teachers? I bet it is supposed to be 125.00 per teacher. Some grades have 8 teachers, how on earth can they divide up 125.00?
I beleive that the PTO spends the money where Dr. Cash asks them to. If you have suggestions on how Pto funds are spent, I suggest you go to the source and attend the PTO meetings.
In the car rider line, from now on we will not only have our children’s name on one sun visor, but we will have to put a “no soliciting” sign on the other!?
I heard the school plans to start selling script cards and maybe even t-shirts in the car rider line. I guess we are a captured audience with our wallets there for their picking.
Actually, they are doing this because parents have expressed that they wanted SCRIP cards available for immediate purchase instead of having to order in advance. The Tees being sold is for conveinence as well. You dont wanna buy, dont...Not sure why you are so against this? The money does go to the school. If you are going to spend $100 at WalMart, why not buy the $100 gift card from the school? School makes money, and youve only spent the $100 you had already planned to spend.
All I know is that at the last meeting they discussed keeping a few SCRIP cards on hand for those parents who needed the cards immediately. They mentioned selling them in the car rider line. For all other immediate purchases you would have to contact the volunteer in charge of SCRIP, I guess they would make arrangements to get the cards to ya. I do know that they will still be taking orders in advance as well.
Can anyone tell me what Boosterthon is? I have never heard of this before. I know when the school was doing Jump Rope for Heart, I was sent home information about it and asked to sign a permission form if I thought it was ok for my child to participate. I have not been given a permission form to sign for this event. I understand this is taking up some class time as well. Aren’t our children supposed to be studying & getting ready for T-Caps?
Boosterthon is a fundraiser to earn money for playground equipment. It only takes 45 minutes on the day of the Fun Run. You should have gotten a permission slip to sign and return.
Does anyone know how your child gets to be involved in the select choir? I am not sure if this is where I ask this but I didn't know.

ReplyDeleteI think it is only for 5th grade.
ReplyDeleteHELP! The school is shoving cookie dough and cheese cake in my face and I am on a DIET!:o(
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when spirit week is? I got a flyer and no dates on it. Also, who is the new PTO??????
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Dr. Cash accepts out of zone students?

ReplyDeleteShes not listed on the website
ReplyDeleteYes, she is under preschool teachers. I just checked.
ReplyDeleteIf you go to STAFF, she is not listed
ReplyDeleteGo to pre school – See the bright red box with the school bus? It has her name on it! You can’t miss it! Who is responsible for updating the website?
ReplyDeleteYup her name is there, it doesn't matter if she is not listed on the staff page her name is still on the preschool teacher page. The website is obviously not kept up to date.
ReplyDeleteI think this school is sort of a joke! All show no substance!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think the teachers are great and anytime I've had a concern they've met with me :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! It is a fabulous school. I do however hate the negativity of some of its parents

ReplyDeleteThere were nominating ballots, a newsletter announcing the meeting and info on the website. There has been info coming home since sometime in Feb.
